Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) has been keeping Long Island residents powered up since 2014 when it was first selected to manage the region’s electrical transmission and distribution system. However, it was receiving the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for Sustained Excellence Award in 2022 that cemented its status as an EV charging pioneer, with market-defining initiatives that helped put 75,000 EVs on Long Island roads as of May 2025. According to Drive Electric Long Island, a local advisory and education group, Long Island now accounts for 26% of New York State’s total EV registrations. Residential Charger Rebate
PSEG Long Island (LI) offers all residential customers a $200 rebate off qualified ENERGY STAR Certified Level 2 EV chargers, with an additional $100 rebate available for those located in disadvantaged communities or enrolled in their Household Assistance Program. There are three ways to apply. 1) Purchase a Level 2 charger directly from the PSEG LI Online Marketplace. 2) Submit an application through their online portal. 3) Download the application off their website, fill it out and email it. The latter two methods require a copy of the sales receipt and photo of the installed charger complete with model and serial number. Customers are limited to one rebate per account per year.
Commercial Make-Ready Program
To increase public charger access and accelerate the transition to sustainable transportation, PSEG LI will cover the installation or upgrade costs of electrical infrastructure at commercial sites up to $65,000 per port for DCFCs and up to $6,500 per port for Level 2 chargers. Customers must submit an application along with a W-9, project charge letter, itemized estimate from a licensed installer and, if applying with an existing service, one copy of a PSEG LI bill. Customer-Side Make-Ready (CSMR) costs include any infrastructure located between the meter and the EV charge, such as conduits, conductors, boring, trenching, transformer, electrical panel and landscape restoration, while Utility-Side Make-Ready (USMR) costs include infrastructure located between the electrical distribution system and the meter.
DCFC Incentive Program
Qualified customers seeking relief from high operating costs can apply for PSEG LI’s Direct Current Fast Charger (DCFC) Incentive Program, which offers a rebate of up to 50% off all demand charges. These are the costliest rates of electricity usage during a billing period because they occur when overall strain on the power grid is the highest. Program eligibility requires the station to be publicly accessible, utilize at least one CCS or CHAdeMO connector and have an output of 50 kW or more.
Fleet Make-Ready Program
This initiative was designed to encourage owners of light-, medium- and heavy-duty fleets to make the leap to electric, which has been shown to lower overall operating expenses through better fuel economy and reduced vehicle maintenance. Incentives may cover infrastructure costs of up to $70,000 for private fleets, $120,000 for public fleets and $150,000 for public transportation, with enhanced incentives available for disadvantaged communities. Application materials are similar to the Commercial Make-Ready Program, but may also require a site layout that verifies the number of chargers.
Additional Rate Savings
PSEG LI’s Time-of-Day Rate offers EV drivers further savings when they charge during off-peak hours, with discounts up to 40% off the traditional Flat Rate. In addition, a new EV Phase-In Rate is being offered in October 2025 to all eligible commercial customers with EV charging stations, which will provide discounted electricity pricing according to a tiered rate structure that adjusts based on energy usage and needs. Chargers at public sites, workplaces, multi-family properties and fleet hubs will qualify.
