Curo - Fleet EV Charging Case Study

Epic Fleet Software and Curo Unlock New Revenue Streams for Charge Point Operators and Site Hosts
Overview
Epic Charging and Curo partnered to maximize revenues for fleet charging operators with a seamless software platform. This partnership saved an LA-based CPO over $10,000 while increasing its revenues.

Epic Fleet software simplifies payment tracking for fleet operators, making it easier for them to manage their operations and maximize revenues. With the virtual Epic Fleet Card, multiple vehicles and RFID cards can be linked to a single account, reducing administrative overhead and improving expense management.

Curo is transforming fleet charging by making underutilized EV chargers more profitable for site hosts and Charge Point Operators (CPOs). Through their Virtual Depot Platform, often described as the “the largest private EV charging network”, Curo enables CPOs and site hosts to rent out unused charging capacity to electric fleets, providing fleets with access to an existing, leasable and distributed charging network.

As part of this partnership, Curo’s Virtual Depot Platform integrates with Epic’s software, combining real-time charger visibility with automated payment tracking for the Epic chargers listed on Curo’s platform. The companies debuted their combined solution for a fleet operator in Los Angeles, where it increased charger utilization and streamlined operations.

The Challenge
A Los Angeles Based CPO operating Juicebox EV chargers turned to Curo with underutilized assets. Curo matched them to an LA based fleet operator, drastically increasing utilization and subsequently activated the location.

However, when Enel X Way announced its shutdown, both the CPO and Curo lost visibility into their chargers—along with the ability for Curo’s fleet partner to use RFID cards for activation. Suddenly, what was once a seamless operation hit an unexpected roadblock.
The Solution
The Los Angeles based CPO joined the Epic Transfer Program, which reprogrammed existing EV chargers and linked them to Epic’s OCPP-compliant software eliminating the need for costly hardware replacements.

Since Curo had already launched at the location, they partnered with Epic Charging’s platform to power this Virtual Depot location, reactivating their fleet partners real-time access to RFID card functionality and reliable charging data—ensuring they know exactly which chargers are available.

With seamless integration into Curo’s infrastructure, Epic’s software delivered:
  • An enablement of higher profitability for the site host’s existing EV chargers
  • API integrations for remote monitoring and management
  • 99.99% uptime reliability and instant visibility into charger health and availability

Curo is once again able to manage and optimize fleet charging operations efficiently, ensuring its partners are always able to charge at a Virtual Depot.
Results
The Los Angeles based CPO saved over $10,000 by reprogramming its Enel X Way chargers instead of replacing the hardware. After transferring the chargers to the Epic Software platform, the CPO and Curo quickly regained visibility into the chargers, transforming previously opaque chargers into a stable and transparent network.

The impact included:
  • Increased Charger Uptime – Epic’s platform enabled the CPO and Curo to once again proactively monitor chargers, preventing downtime before it impacted fleet operations.
  • Higher Utilization Rates – By improving reliability and visibility, Curo was able to continue increasing charger utilization and site profitability.
  • Seamless Integration – Epic’s software was deployed quickly and worked seamlessly at Curo’s LA Virtual Depot location.
Looking Ahead
Kieran White, CEO and Co-founder of Curo, describes Epic Charging as a “game changer”, highlighting its ability to provide unparalleled data granularity and visibility through an intuitive, user-friendly interface.

“Epic’s platform is incredibly easy and reliable for site hosts.” White said, emphasizing how Epic had ensured a smooth transition at the LA Virtual Depot by enhancing reliability and usability. “The transfer to the Epic Charging platform was seamless. The team acted quickly, and the process was executed smoothly.”

Curo’s Virtual Depot platform now includes some Epic Charging locations, all of which provide an ideal solution for CPOs and EV charging owners managing restricted-access chargers—including workplaces, multi-family properties, schools, and commercial sites. By leveraging Curo’s Virtual Depot Platform, site hosts can seamlessly monetize their unused charging capacity, turning idle chargers into a guaranteed revenue stream.

“Curo makes it effortless for site hosts to generate passive income by leasing their chargers to fleet operators,” said Michael Bakunin, CEO of Epic Charging. “With the virtual Epic Fleet Card and our expanded partnership, we’re providing another industry-leading opportunity to maximize profitability and enhance EV infrastructure for CPOs.”
