Introducing the Epic Transfer Program

Epic Charging reinforces its commitment to deliver an Epic Customer experience for customers who need a new EV charging software provider.

Commercial site hosts across North America have experienced significant market ambiguity with the recent shutdown of Enel X Way, Shell Sky software, and EVBox. These shutdowns have left thousands of customers without a clear solution to continue operating the equipment they invested in. Fleet operators, municipalities, and commercial EV charging owners should contact Epic Charging to learn about the Epic Software Transfer commitment.

About the Shell SkyTM Shutdown
Shell Recharge announced that it will shutdown the Shell SkyTM charge point monitoring software (CPMS) in the US and Canada on April 30, 2025. This announcement means that Shell will shut down services for third-party charging stations in favor of prioritizing the company's own Shell-owned public charging network.

Shell SkyTM CPMS was launched by Shell after its acquisition of a startup called Greenlots in 2019 and it was later rebranded Shell Recharge. Along with the acquisition, Shell secured contracts to operate the software and maintenance of EV chargers that were owned by municipalities, fleets, and commercial operators across the US and Canada. These are the customers who are now affected by the shutdown.

With the Epic Software Transfer, our company is offering a seamless conversion of your charging stations to the Epic Charging software network. Just like Shell, our back-end uses the industry standard OCPP communications protocol which reduces the cost and headaches involved in transferring your stations. However, unlike Shell Recharge, our company does not own and operate chargers - we are only focused on providing the best customer experience, software, and maintenance services for organizations who operate their own chargers. With Epic Charging, you will no longer need to compete for attention.

About the Enel X Way Shutdown
On October 2, 2024, Enel X Way announced it was shutting down its business in the US. This announcement left hundreds of thousands of EV charging stations across the US and Canada in limbo. Enel X Way customers spent several weeks without a clear indication of what will happen to their EV charging equipment because the company originally said their chargers would lose all functionality after the shutdown.

Enel S.p.A., an international electric utility based in Italy, initially entered the North American market with its acquisition of eMotorWerks in 2017 and later rebranded the business unit to Enel X Way. The North American business unit spent over half a decade deploying hundreds of thousands of JuiceBox level 2 chargers and rebranded DC chargers from Tritium. Unlike the EV charging hardware from Shell Recharge, the software implementatoin of JuiceBox EV chargers did not follow the industry standard OCPP communications protocol.

The implementation of a non-standard communications protocol made it extremely challenging for other EV charging software providers to transfer the operations of JuiceBox EV chargers. This led to a high level of confusion among their existing client base who needed a clear solution to continue powering their electric vehicle operations.

Epic Charging is an independently owned, US based EV charging software provider with a commitment to transparency and delivering an Epic customer experience. Since the shutdown was announced, our team of expert engineers have transferred thousands of EV chargers from Enel X Way to Epic Charging.
