Cost of Electricity Configuration

Epic Charging enables Cost of Electricity configuration per Location. This feature allows users to define and manage electricity tariffs directly in Location settings, improving transparency and empowering accurate electricity cost calculations.

1. Start by navigating to the 'Locations' tab within your Epic account. Find the Location you’d like to configure the tariffs for and click on the ‘Cost of Electricity’ tab.

2. The ‘Currency’ dropdown is pre-filled with the Tenant's default currency and cannot be configured manually.

3. Use the ‘Utility’ field to search for and select a utility. The dropdown contains all utilities in the US, Canada, Mexico and Spain, and you can always go with the “Other” option.

4. Initially, the system has a single default set up for the cost of electricity to be $0.16/kWh for the entire day (12:00 am - 12:00 am).

5. Use the timeline-based UI, similar to the one on the ‘Pricing’ tab, to set different electricity tariffs across different time segments throughout the day. The timezone of the timeline defaults to the Location time zone. Click on the timeline to split it into multiple intervals, allowing for the configuration of different electricity rates within each interval. These utility rates will be used to calculate electricity costs:
  • In the Dashboard - ‘Cost of Electricity’ metric card
  • In Generic Reports - ‘Electricity Cost’ column

6. You can also enable separate Weekday and Weekend/Holiday tariffs by toggling the corresponding flag. By default, the flag is off. When enabled, two tabs will appear - ‘Weekdays’ and ‘Weekends/Holidays’ - where you can set separate tariffs for each.

7. All tariff configurations must be saved by pressing the “Save changes” button on the ‘Cost of Electricity’ tab. Once new utility rates are set, they will apply to all new charging sessions going forward. Existing sessions will remain unchanged.
